NFDI4Memory-Incubator Funds-Projekt

NFDI4Memory Incubator Funds project “Sentiment analysis between insights and distortion.
A case study on eyewitness accounts of the Holocaust and its aftermath”
(IGdJ/University of Erfurt/Erfurt University of Applied Sciences)

January 2026

As part of the Incubator Funds 2026 announced by NFDI4Memory, the Institute for the History of German Jews (IGdJ) and the Chair of Digital Humanities at the University and University of Applied Sciences Erfurt are implementing a nine-month innovative project on the method of sentiment analysis. Against the backdrop of the growing importance of AI-supported analysis methods, the aim is to contribute to a critical reflection on their functioning and their application scenarios with regard to the evaluation and interpretation of eyewitness accounts of the Holocaust and its aftermath. At the same time, the project experiences are intended to test and evaluate new methodological approaches for historical research. The findings will be prepared didactically as a learning unit.
