About

Anna Menny is an academic staff member at the IGdJ and as project manager responsible for the online source edition of Key Documents of German-Jewish History. By coordinating or supporting the conception of online projects she further develops the IGdJ’s working section #DigitalJewishHistory.

She studied history, politics, and media culture at the "Universität Hamburg" and worked as a research assistant at the Chair of Jewish History and Culture at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich within the Cluster of Excellence project on “Christen, Mauren und Juden – Erinnerungskultur und Identitätspolitik in der iberischen Moderne” (“Christians, Moors and Jews – Culture of Remembrance and Politics of Identity in Modern Iberia”). There she wrote her dissertation on Spanish-Jewish contemporary history.

Anna Menny is a member of the “Digital” editorial team of the online journal Medaon. Magazin für jüdisches Leben in Forschung und Bildung (Magazine for Jewish Life in Research and Education) and spokesperson for the network Jüdische Geschichte digital (Jewish History Digital) within the AG Digitale Geschichtswissenschaft (Digital History Working Group) of the Organization of Historians in Germany. She represents the IGdJ in its role as participant within the consortium NFDI4Memory.

Activity profile

Anna Menny manages a major part of the IGdJ’s digital projects and thus contributes decisively to the development of the #DigitalJewishHistory section at the interface between research and outreach. She helps to realize new digital projects such as the online interview-platform “Jüdisches Hamburg erzählen” (together with Dr. Karen Körber und Dr. Anna Neovesky). As project manager of the Key Documents Edition as well as contact person for the Picture Database with over 2.500 historic images and the online reference work Jewish Hamburg, her responsibilities include both the coordination and the further conceptual development of the online offerings. The online exhibitions realized under the umbrella of the Key Documents Edition as well as other thematic and didactic additions that keep the website up-to-date and expand it are particularly worth mentioning here. Her work also includes internal consulting on the conception of digital offerings, as well as networking with other projects. As coordinator on the part of the IGdJ, she is involved in the elaboration of the online portal "Jewish History Online", which is being developed at the Moses Mendelssohn Center for European-Jewish Studies in Potsdam in cooperation with the IGdJ.
